MABE Brings Full AVL Production to the Annual Swan Derby on Lake Mirror

The Swan Derby, Lakeland’s beloved “Derby Style” event, returned to the picturesque Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland for another year of excitement, entertainment, and community celebration. Known for its competitive spirit, festive atmosphere, and charitable impact, the Swan Derby is a highlight of the local social calendar, with proceeds supporting Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine.

This year, MABE was proud to provide comprehensive AVL production services, elevating the experience for attendees both on-site and in the community. Our production featured Chauvet professional lighting fixtures, Meyer Sound audio systems, and a wireless IMAG camera mounted on one of the swan paddle boats, providing spectators with a thrilling, on-the-water perspective of the race.

Capturing the Excitement

The Derby features ten hand-crafted swan paddle boats racing to the finish line, along with additional competitions including the Maiden Handicap and Derby Dash. Thanks to MABE’s AVL setup, every turn, sprint, and finish was clearly amplified and visible on large screens via the IMAG system, bringing the action up close for all attendees.

Entertainment, Food & Fun

Beyond the races, attendees enjoyed live music, local food truck vendors, and activities for kids at Swan Land. And of course, the iconic Derby Hat Contest kept the festive spirit alive. With the IMAG camera in the swan boat, even those farther from the lake could experience the thrill of the race as if they were on the water themselves.
