Pink noise, the ubiquitous test signal, which though useful in some measurement applications is nevertheless problematic when used to quantify the maximum level capability of loudspeakers reproducing music. Pink noise and music do not share the same dynamic characteristics (peak to average ratios) across the frequency spectrum. Therefore, measurements using pink noise cannot accurately predict the performance of a loudspeaker when reproducing music. To remedy this shortcoming, Meyer Sound has developed M-noise, a new test signal that was mathematically derived by analyzing a broad spectrum of music content. M-noise gives a much clearer picture of how a loudspeaker will perform in real-world applications. Find out more in this video.
